Readings And Toughts

As you know, I like reading and I would like to share my toughts on the all different kind of literature from many different cultures in this part of my website.

"Death" by Todd May

In this book: Todd May talks about: the faces of death, immortality and is it better than being a mortal and how we should be living in the shadow of death. I really enjoyed reading this book as it changed my viewpoint on some ideas and it showed me the ironic connection between life and death. Even if ive started reading about philosophy recently i was able to go trough this book without confusion as it explains the ideas using great examples and analogies, it also doesn't go into very detailed explaining in some parts so if you want to learn more i would recommend checking out the sources he used for research and examples. If you are looking for a place to start reading about death i would say this book would be great start.

"Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury

This books shows us a dystopian world where reading is illegal and the way of learning is reading blunt summaries from the eyes of our main character, Montag. Reading this book today and seeing how close we get to this each day is actually terriffying. a world where censorship and false news take over, destroying every bit of actual knowledge and punishing people for yearning for it. “If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none." a nice quote from the book that summerizes the world. The main character is a firefighter but unlike the firefighters we have in our world, the firefighters in this universe burn books and Montag; after experiencing a few events; gets a shift in character. Another qoute that seems to spark the turning this point in Montag is “There must be something in books, things we can’t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house." said after another firefighter raid. He gets tempted and at some point reads (I don't really want to talk more about the plot to avoid spoilers.) and the story goes trough a roller coaster afterwards. Now to talk about my toughts: I really enjoyed reading this book the plot and the pacing was exquisite. I've read the book in turkish and after looking into the original a little i can say that the translator did a pretty good job. Ray bradbury said this book wasn't a future prediction but was written to prevent any of this happening, to warn people so the dystopia he wrote about never becomes a reality. Looking at the world today and the directions people in charge take, it seems his book is failing his purpose day by day. It's sad to see that but we can always encourage people to learn and read more and thats what I am trying to do by writing these reviews!
